Blue Herons

Over the weekend we got excited when we observed first one, then a pair of Great Blue Herons roosting in the tree almost exactly opposite and below our balcony. Realizing that we’d have a “bird’s eye view”, we hoped that they were preparing to nest, but after spending most of Sunday in the tree, they seemed to have moved elsewhere, perhaps checking out other real estate opportunities around the lake.

Signs

Tom told me about this a couple of days ago, so I took a walk yesterday to investigate and document the arrival of half a dozen informational signboards that have been placed around the perimeter of the park detailing various aspects of the coming apocalypse Lake Rehabilitation Project. Two of them - at the northwest and northeast corners - are the same, but the rest are unique. The one at the southeast corner is virtually impossible to read due to its placement - unless you take a walk in the landscaping.
There's nothing surprising on the signs if you've been following the Project by attending meetings, tours or reading the material that's on-line, but it does seem like tangible evidence that things are inching towards a start date.
